Two years later, California billionaire David Murdoc announced plans forthe N.C. Research Campusw at the 350-acre former Pillowtex headquarters andmanufacturinf site. The life-sciences hub includes the participationn ofDuke University, the UNC the N.C.
Community College System, other educational institutions andbusinesz partners. The total investment is expected toreacg $1.8 billion. Residential and commercial developmentsa are rising around the campus with hopes ofturning Kannapolis, a former textile town, into a biotecb center.
