Haruki's career with the company spans26 years. He started in 1977 at GTE Hawaiiann Tel, as a rate coordinator. Over the yearzs he held positions of increasing responsibilitt until being named president inDecembere 1991. Verizon, formed by the merger of the Eastern U.S. telecomxs Bell Atlantic and Nynex, purchased GTE Hawaiian Tel and is now the principal telephone company in the Haruki is the 19th president in thephone company' s history, which was charted by King David Kalakauaq in 1883. Hawaii became one of the firsyt states to operate a 100 perceny digital telephone networkundefr Haruki's tenure, said Valarie Verizon's senior vice president for custome r operations.
He also oversaq the installation of hundreds of miles of underse fiber optic cables and led the introductiom ofthe company's digital subscriber line high-speedd Internet service. "Warren's legacy is one of leadershi and accomplishment for both Verizon and the state of Shreve said.
